A HOST of Bradford businesses were named winners at this year’s English Asian Business Awards.

Now in its seventh year, the prestigious awards acknowledge and honour the determination, entrepreneurial spirit and hard work of English Asian businessmen and women.

Award winners were revealed at a glamorous, black-tie event at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly hotel on Monday evening.

Almost 30 businesses and individuals from Bradford were shortlisted, with six taking away the top prize in the categories they were nominated.

Small Retail Business of the Year went to art gallery and gift store Artz-i, which is based on Sunbridge Road.

Best Food Establishment went to Mother Hubbard’s Fish and Chip restaurant, while SME Business of the Year went to Yeme Architects.

Pasha scooped Creative Business of the Year, while Rising Star in Law went to Broadway House Chambers.

Organiser’s Business of the Year went to Faum Architecture.

Mohammed Rasul, director of Artz-i, said: “It’s really exciting.

“It’s a reward for all the hard work we put in.”

Mr Rasul added: “It was amazing to see the number of amazing businesses in Bradford.

“I was really happy to see so many people from Bradford in the finals."

Imran Farooq, from Mother Hubbard's, said: "I would like to thank Oceanic Consulting and the awards ceremony for acknowledging the hard work we have done in bringing this business back up to the highest quality.

"The team have worked really hard over the past year to bring the quality of food and customer service back up to the highest standard which the award shows we have achieved.

"We will continue to provide the highest quality in food and customer service with the continuing support from our amazing customers."

Amir Hussain, from Yeme Architects, said: "The entire team at Yeme Architects have worked incredibly hard to have grown so fast and deliver such outstanding outcomes."

He added the firm was "delighted" to have won the award in the face of national competition.

Irfan Younis, CEO of Oceanic Consulting, which runs the awards, added: “We would like to congratulate all the finalists and winners of the seventh English Asian Business Awards 2018.

“Year upon year we have seen the achievements of Asians increase in the business sector and we are already looking forward to what next year has in store.”

The evening also helped to raise money for Oceanic Well, a fundraising initiative by the Well Foundation.

Its primary aim is to raise money to install hand pumps and deep bore wells and establish health and sanitation programmes to provide safe, clean drinking water for all.
