Two men are believed to have been shot in Holme Wood this morning in two separate incidents.

Police were first alerted by a call from Dulverton Grove, Holme Wood, at 2.43am, saying that a man had been shot in the leg.

A man in his 40s was found at the scene by armed officers.

He had leg injuries that appeared to be consistent with a firearms discharge and was taken to hospital, police confirmed.

A spokesperson from the police said: "His injuries are serious but are not believed to be life-threatening."

Forensics officers later attended the scene at Dulverton Grove and a forensic tent was erected between a yellow flatbed van and a black Audi, both of which appeared to have been damaged.

A resident on the street said: "I thought it was fireworks going off."

Another said: "I heard gunshots at around quarter to three because it woke the little ones up. We heard shouting as if someone was in pain. There was also shouting before [the gunshots], but we just presumed it was from the club down the road.”

One man said his neighbour told him she’d heard two gunshots.

At around 12.30pm the forensic team could be seen inspecting shattered glass and the van, whilst placing a number of evidence markers around the scene.

A further police cordon was in place at an address on Gillingham Green, just round the corner from Dulverton Grove.

Police were also investigating an incident there after a man in his 30s turned up at hospital in the early hours of Monday.

He had pellet wounds to his leg sustained from an incident that is believed to have happened at the address at around midnight, police confirmed.

The injuries are believed to be less serious.

Several residents responded to the safety concerns raised by the suspected shootings in the area.

One grandparent said: “It makes me nervous - I’ve not been here 12 months. It makes me want to up and leave."

Another Holme Wood resident, who had also heard shouting in the early hours of this morning in Dulverton Grove, said she did not let her children out of the garden.

She said: “We keep ourselves to ourselves and don’t associate with anyone on the estate.”

Another neighbour told the T&A: “I didn’t hear anything myself – the first I knew about it was when I drove down the road and nearly went straight through the tape – I didn’t see it at first.”
