A NEW campaign - 'Be Clear on Cancer' - has been launched across Yorkshire and the Humber to highlight blood in urine as a key symptom of bladder and kidney cancers.
The campaign will encourage everyone to ‘look before they flush’ and visit their GP without delay if they notice blood, even if it’s just once.
A new survey has revealed that only 14 per cent of adults aged 50 and over - those most at risk of these cancers - in the region say they check the colour of their urine every time they go to the toilet.
Frances Cunning, from Public Health England in Yorkshire and The Humber, said: "We know that people are concerned about wasting their GP’s time. But, if you have had blood in your pee, even if it’s ‘just the once’, you must see your GP to get it checked out. They want to see you - you aren’t wasting their time."
There are around 2,096 diagnoses of bladder and kidney cancer and 850 deaths each year in Yorkshire and the Humber.
