PUPILS from a Keighley school cleared huge amounts of rubbish from a snicket between Ingrow Lane Oakbank Broadway.

A dozen young people from Beckfoot Oakbank spent an hour and a half working on the snicket after residents originally approached Keighley West councillor Adrian Farley to complain about the littler problem.

Cllr Farley approached the nearby school, which offered support from its Eco Warriors group of pupils.

With help from Bradford Council, which provided litter pickers and rubbish bags, the pupils got rid of a large accumulation of litter from the snicket.

Cllr Farley said: "It was a fantastic day, very hot and sunny. We were able to collect an awful lot of rubbish during the morning.

"As a council we were very impressed with what the students achieved, and their school is up for doing this again in future."

Graeme Hill, assistant head teacher at Beckfoot Oakbank, said: "We take great pride in being able to provide our students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills.

"Our Eco Warriors – students from across years seven, eight, nine and 10 – have worked hard throughout the year, leading on environmental issues in school.

"They are dedicated students who wanted to help our local community.

"Collecting over 15 large bags of rubbish in only two hours was as one student put it “amazing”.

"All the students agreed this should become an annual event and they'd like to do more similar community-based projects.

"Everyone at the school is extremely proud of them."
