A MAJOR route has now reopened following a crash involving a cyclist and a lorry this morning.
Motorists faced long delays around Hellfire Crossroads - the A58 Leeds Road and Huddersfield Road junction at Wyke - while the scene was cleared.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said officers were called to the scene at just after 8.30am and the cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.
One onlooker said: "I heard a bang, thought there had been a car crash and when I looked outside, someone had been knocked off their bike."
He said the air ambulance had landed at the scene.
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said it sent two rapid response vehicles, an ambulance, a clinical supervisor, the air ambulance and the Hazardous Area Response Team.
The male cyclist was taken to the Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or the events immediately prior to it can contact police on 101, quoting log 0458 of today.
