A MAN who ransacked a community cafe that supports adults with learning disabilities and stole money from its safe has been jailed.
Rafael Paul, 26, climbed a fire escape to jump over a wall into the yard of the Outside the Box cafe in Ilkley on April 27. He then smashed a window and door to get into the office, stealing £900 from the safe and £60 of tips.
Earlier that night he had also tried, unsuccessfully, to gain access to the neighbouring Flying Duck pub.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Paul, of Granville Road, Frizinghall, Bradford, had also tried to break into the Ink Shop in Tadcaster on April 12, and five days later, had received a suspended prison sentence for burgling a bed and breakfast in Haworth and trying to break into a hairdressers in Shipley.
He admitted charges of burglary and attempted burglary, with the court told he was “out of control” at the time of the offending on heroin and crack cocaine.
Judge David Hatton QC jailed Paul (pictured) for 19 months.
