A DRIVER who led police on a “prolonged” chase in and around Bradford has been spared jail.
Officers activated their blue lights after Azeem Hussain, 26, overtook an unmarked police car at speed on Highgate Road at around 2.30am on May 29.
In the chase that followed, which took in Shearbridge Road, Horton Grange Road, and Great Horton Road, Hussain reached speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone, ran red lights, and almost lost control on a mini-roundabout. He was only stopped when police in Queensbury laid down stingers and burst the four tyres on his car.
Hussain, of Vegal Crescent, Halifax, admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop. Bradford Crown Court heard he had no previous convictions and a clean driving record.
Judge David Hatton QC said he was “just” able to suspend a six-month prison sentence for two years, ordering Hussain to complete 250 hours of unpaid work and a two-month curfew.
