A CAREER burglar and drug addict who broke into a Bradford couple’s house on Christmas Day has been jailed for four years.

Steven Gibson (pictured), 38, of no fixed abode, smashed a window and door to gain entry to the property on Harrogate Road as the occupants were out walking their dogs. He rummaged through a woman’s jewellery box, but only stole alcohol and chocolate. In interview, he admitted to police that the burglary was a “sh*tty thing to do.”

Bradford Crown Court heard that the offence was the last of a spree of burglaries committed by Gibson between September and December last year, during which he even stole gold and sapphire rings from his own mother’s house in Eccleshill to fund his drug habit. He was jailed for 44 months in February, and Judge David Hatton QC said the four-year term would run alongside that sentence.

He told him: “This was a particularly despicable offence. It has had a devastating effect upon your victims.”
