A MAN who agreed to turn two bedrooms of his Bradford home into a cannabis farm in return for a free supply of the drug has avoided jail.

Jordan Barnes, 24, was caught after police raided his address on Farleton Drive, Fagley, on November 4 last year.

In one back bedroom, officers discovered 27 mature cannabis plants, along with lamps, fans, a filtration system, and equipment to bypass electricity.

Each of the plants, some of which were 1.3m tall, were found to have a potential yield of 55g, giving a total yield of 1.49kg, said to be worth an estimated £12,750.

Barnes pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis at Bradford Crown Court, saying he was growing the drug on behalf of others.

Recorder Graeme Cook jailed Barnes for six months, suspended for a year, and ordered him to complete 30 rehabilitation activity days.

He ordered that the drugs and associated paraphernalia be destroyed.
