STORM Hector has sent a much admired tree crashing to the ground in a street in Girlington.

Rafiq Sehgal, a member of the Council for Mosques and chair of Bradford District Independent Advisory Group took the photograph this morning after a windy night saw wind speeds of up to 70 miles per hour sweep over the north of the country.

Mr Sehgal said he was dismayed to see the tree down in Lingwood Road, which was near his home.

"I have lived here for more than 30 years and that tree has always been here," he said.

He added: "It was a lovely tree and as tall as the houses. It is sad to see it go. It must have come down in the early hours of the morning when the wind was bad.

"I phoned the council to see about it being removed and they said they would come out but that they were busy with other callouts at the moment. It is a through road so cars can get out.

"It was lucky that it came down in between vehicles so it didn't cause any damage or hit anyone."
