Telegraph & Argus Friday 6 June 1958:

While filming for the movie “Room at the Top” was proving a novelty for many passers-by, for the shopkeepers in Ivegate, it is causing a loss in revenue. One store manager had estimated a total loss of well over £1,000, due to people blocking the shop doorways whilst watching the filming. With no notification about the filming except from a message from the police saying that no cars could be parked in Ivegate, it was understandable why the traders were slightly annoyed. The British movie based on the novel by John Braine however, went on to be nominated for six Academy Awards, winning Best Actress and Best screenplay.
