WORK to revamp a canal towpath in Silsden may face delays after two mini-diggers were set on fire.

The suspected arson attack took place in Brunthwaite Bridge Lane at 1.10am on Monday and totally destroyed the plant machinery.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the diggers belonged to the Canal and River Trust, who are carrying out work on the footpath.

A crew from Keighley fire station was alerted to the blaze by site security guards and police were called in.

The work is part of a £2.9million scheme to improve access for walkers and cyclists.

On the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, 2.7km of the route between Lodge Hill Bridge at Riddlesden Golf Club and Silsden Road Bridge is being resurfaced, following improvements from Kirkstall to Shipley.
