Do you remember Bradford's Swan Arcade?

As plans got underway to demolish the much-loved Swan Arcade in 1962. Bradfordians looked back in fondness at the once loved arcade that was considered a shopping centre way ahead of its time. Demolished inside a web of scaffolding the once covered arcade was built by Angus Holden in 1877 upon the site of the White Swan Inn premises and some small shops in Market Street, at a cost of £160,000. Another great feature of the building were the ornamental gates which were often admired, and pitch pine framework for the windows. One of the oldest tenants was tobacconist G. H. Briggs, where Woodbines could be purchased at five for a penny.
