A SCHOOL has closed a classroom and is bringing in meals from another school after discovering a mouse infestation.

A number of parents contacted the Telegraph & Argus to share their concerns about the situation at Marshfield Primary School, Thornton Lane, Little Horton.

The school confirmed mice had been seen in a classroom and “immediate action” had been taken to tackle the problem.

One parent said: “Bradford Council’s environmental health has been to the school and has closed the dinner hall due to mice droppings being found and the children are only being provided with sandwiches as no food can be prepared in the kitchen.

“A text message has gone out to all parents to inform them of the children only having sandwiches until further notice.”

Another parent said: “Over the last couple of days children have been having their school dinners in the playground as it’s too dangerous for the children to eat in the the canteen.”

They also said some parents were refusing to send their children to school in light of the news.

One added: “Children have been having dinner in the playground since Monday. A lot of parents have seen environmental health in the school.

“I just found out yesterday.”

Another said: “I’m not sending my son to school. They are not saying anything.”

The parent said they had received a text saying the school would provide sandwiches until further notice, while another said it had been going on since the beginning of the week and parents had not been told.

Victoria Hartford, head teacher at Marshfield Primary School, said: “Mice have been seen in a classroom at the school and we have taken immediate action to ensure they are removed.

“That classroom has been closed and we are working with environmental health to resolve this problem as quickly as we can.

“As an added precaution, we’ve taken the decision to bring in meals from another school rather than prepare food on site.

“We will continue to keep parents informed about the situation.”

The school also said that nobody had been told they could not eat in the canteen and children had eaten in there.
