John Boyton Priestley, novelist, playwright, scriptwriter and broadcaster, known by his pen name J.B. Priestley, had died peacefully at his home, within one month of his 90th birthday. Mr. Priestley born in Manningham, in September 1894, had been awarded the Order of Merit in 1977. A prolific writer and outstanding wartime broadcaster his works included the novels The Good Companions, Angel Pavement, Bright Day, and the plays Dangerous Corner, Laburnum Grove, Time and the Conways and An Inspector Calls. A staunch supporter of the Bradford Playhouse, he allowed the Playhouse the first amateur “bite” at many of his plays.
