A spokesperson said: “This landslip occurred near the railway and moved a tree so that it has become unstable.

“Network Rail are on site now working to clear the tree from the line and ensure that it is safe for trains to run through.”

Direct journeys between Leeds and Ilkley were suspended on Wednesday with customers advised to change at Shipley. Repair work will continue until Monday.

Journeys between Bradford Forster Square and Ilkley were also delayed as electric trains were unable to use the line, although they are now understood to be operating as normal.

Northern Rail tickets between Leeds and Ilkley will be accepted on First Bus buses on Wednesday April 4 and Thursday April 5, the two operators confirmed.
