A crackdown on motorists using foreign-registered vehicles is under way in West Yorkshire.
The county’s roads policing unit (RPU) has seized a number of such vehicles over the Easter weekend so far.
A spokesman for the unit said police had been “cracking down on foreign registered vehicles being driven by UK residents.”
The spokesman added: “Most of the foreign reg cars seized were former UK cars exported to another EU country to register then return to UK in hope of cheaper motoring costs.
“However, no matter your nationality, if you are resident in the UK you must register your car in the UK immediately on return.
“This includes MOTing your vehicle, taxing it and, once reregistered in the UK, insuring it.
“We can now seize vehicles for no tax including foreign registered vehicles.”
The latest confiscation of a foreign registered vehicle came last night in Leeds.
The RPU spokesman said: “Kuwait reg vehicle stopped in Leeds City Centre. Owner has been living in the UK for the past 4yrs and holds a Kuwait driving licence. Driver reported, Vehicle seized.”
