BRADFORD'S billiards team won 8-7 against Huddersfield-2 at Milnsbridge Liberal Club. With just one match left to play they remain in second place in the league table, albeit six points adrift of leaders Huddersfield-1.

The first game of the night between Bradford's Paul Devitt and Huddersfield's Scott Lawton was largely uneventful, being settled by a fine 34 break from Devitt late in the game - the score of 200-177 putting Bradford 3-2 in front.

The second game started much more brightly with Bradford's Steve Wilman and Martin Wood trading breaks of 32 and 36 within the first 50 points.

The game however failed to maintain this early promise, with Wood eventually claiming victory 200-153, bringing the match score to 5-5.

All six players struggled to get to grips with the table and the last game reflected the first, with Bradford captain Stephen Kershaw's late break of 38 enabling him to see off Jezz Ford 200-175 and giving Bradford an 8-7 victory.

Bradford's last game is at home to bottom of the table Doncaster while leaders Huddersfield-1 are away to third-placed Harrogate who trail Bradford by one point.

Entries are now being accepted for the South Bradford Summer Snooker League and teams from any of the district's leagues are invited to participate, although entries are limited to 16.

This is a really competitive and enjoyable event and the format will be dependent on the number of teams that enter. Each team will field four players who each play two frames against their opponent using their individual handicaps on the night to form a team handicap.

For example, four players playing off 10 will have a team handicap of 80. It is likely there will be two divisions that will determine placings to progress further.

The top four of each division usually go into the Team Cup Knockout with the next four teams into a plate event, ensuring players continue to enjoy playing as close to the new season as possible. Entry fee is £15 per team and there is a £4 per team per fixture match fee. The deadline for entries is April 29 and for more information contact Paul Ascough (07969 895381) or forms can be downloaded via the Bradford website www.bsa-cuesports.com
