MARIE Curie's ninth 'Great Daffodil Walk' gets underway this weekend and people are being urged to sign up for the six-mile walk.

It will take place on Sunday and has been organised by the Bradford Hospice Fundraising Group. The circular walk will go through Myrtle Park and the St Ives Estate, Bingley, to raise money for the Bradford hospice.

Registration for the walk is £5 per person payable in advance or on the day as people are asked to seek sponsorship for the walk too. Registration in advance will help to avoid long queues on the day.

The walk starts at 9.30am from Tarquin’s Tearooms in Myrtle Park, Bingley, and walkers are asked to arrive at least 20 minutes before the start to get registered. Refreshments will be available to purchase from the tearooms before, during and after the event.

The event has raised more than £16,000 for the hospice to date and the Bradford Hospice Fundraising Group wants to make this year’s ‘Great Daffodil Walk’ the biggest.

More than 100 people took part last year. The walk is suitable for adults and children and anyone who wishes to walk with a dog is welcome, but the route is not suitable for people with prams or pushchairs.

Dave Harvey, chairman of the group, said, “Last year’s turnout was about 100 walkers despite the weather and we would love even more to take part this year.

"It’s a very enjoyable walk through the park and the estate around Bingley and a great way to raise money for the Bradford hospice at the same time.

"I’d like to thank Mortgage Advisory Service in Bingley for their support with the event this year as well as Tarquin’s Tearoom. This is an event that brings the whole community together to show support for the Bradford hospice.

"Marie Curie cares for anyone with a terminal illness, and their families, free of charge. Every £20 raised on the day will cover an hour of nursing care.”
