SIR – Snow storms and freezing temperatures stopped many of Marie Curie’s volunteers collecting generous donations, putting the charity’s biggest annual fundraising campaign - the Great Daffodil Appeal - at risk of missing its £264,000 target during March.

As dedicated nurses steps out whatever the weather, they urgently need the support of people from across the county to ensure that vital fundraising continues so that the charity can keep on providing care for people suffering a terminal illness.

This latest bout of bad weather means we’re having to cancel many of our street and supermarket collections. This, coupled with members of the public staying warm at home means the amount we’ve been able to collect over the last week has been reduced dramatically. We’re putting out an urgent appeal for people to make a donation online or via text.

The Great Daffodil Appeal invites people to make a donation in exchange for a daffodil pin. Please donate online or text DAFF to 70099 to donate £5. Or you can step into a snowy spring by signing up to the 10,000 steps per day challenge in exchange for sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues.
