BUS companies have been praised for putting rivalries aside and working together to keep people on the move when the Beast from the East hit.
Councillor Eric Firth, deputy chairman of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority transport committee, said the co-operative attitude was testament to a partnership forged last year between the companies and transport bosses, called Bus18.
He said: “I was pleased to see that in the face of disruption and cancellations during some of the worst snow we’ve seen for a number of years, Bus18 partners Arriva, First West Yorkshire and Transdev quickly agreed to accept each other’s tickets, to help passengers get where they needed to be.”
He said the Metro travel information website had also performed well, despite six times the usual number of visitors logging on to find out about the disruption caused by the snow. He said in the past, “sudden peaks such as this have caused the site to slow down”.
