SHIPLEY MP Philip Davies has hit out at rumours claiming he will not be standing in the town at the next general election.
Mr Davies was elected for a fourth successive term in the town in June last year. He was re-elected with 27,417 votes, which saw his majority almost halved from 9,624 in 2015 to 4,681 last year.
Councillor Ralph Berry (Lab, Wibsey) posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday about the reports.
He said: "Trying not to get exited by rumours that Phillip Davies is not standing again in Shipley."
In response, Mr Davies said: "This is more to do with wishful thinking on the part of the Labour Party.
"My advice would be to tell people to never believe social media posts from the Labour Party about me. The last time the Labour Party did that they said I was going to lose my seat at the General Election last year.
"The next election is four years away. If I was going to stand down, I would have done it before last year's election.
"Ultimately it is up to my Conservative Party Association whether or not I stand at the next election or not. It would be rather conceited of me if I said that myself."
