Hundreds of fans from across the country are set to cheer on indie rock heroes The Charlatans when they headline this year's Bingley Music Live Sunday event.

The britpop veterans - known as one of the most popular bands of the 1990s - will appear at Myrtle Park on September 2.

They have had 16 top 40 singles including One to Another, Love Is The Key, How High and North Country Boy, come fresh from supporting The Rolling Stones, and are the latest big name on the bill.

Fans of mod rockers The Jam will see their heroes free of charge when two original members of the group Drummer Rich Buckler and bass player Bruce Foxton, take centre stage on Saturday, September 1.

They will perform classics such as Going Underground, Eton Rifles and That's Entertainment.

Joining them will be The Bluetones, who had hits with such songs as Slight Return, Marblehead Johnson and Sleazy Bed Track.

The two-day event will also give local artists a platform.

Groups set to entertain alongside the headline acts include White Light Parade, The Touch, Splash Alley, Analog Bombs, Elliot Minor and Sharp Darts.

Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, Bradford Council's executive member for the environment and culture, said: "We have had already a lot of interest in this event and the line-up from across the country and it is great that this revamped event is proving so popular."

The announcement by Bradford Council comes after it made a u-turn on its decision to axe the district's biggest music festival.

Two months after announcing the end of Music at Myrtle and Party in the Park, the Council decided in May that the show will go on under the Bingley Music Live banner.

Coun Hawkesworth said: "I hope people will get their tickets, come along and enjoy the atmosphere."

Unlike in previous years, alcohol will not be allowed on site and stewards will be on the gates monitoring this rule. There will be bars inside the park.

The Saturday night event, from 4pm to 10.30pm, is free and tickets are not required.

Tickets are required for the Sunday event and they are on sale.

Tickets cost £7.50 for adults and £5 for Passport to Leisure holders, call Bradford Theatres box office on (01274) 432000.

Gates open for the Sunday event at 12pm with the first band due on at 1.30pm. The concert will finish at about 9pm.
