The Met Office has issued a new yellow warning for snow, with Bradford in the area covered.

Bradford is on the fringes of the area affected by the warning, which runs from 6pm on Wednesday to 6am on Thursday, and so may miss out on the worst of the weather.

But rain and sleet showers are forecast for the rest of the evening, potentially turning to snow around 5am.

This could lead to slippery conditions for the Thursday morning rush hour - Bradford Council has blamed icy conditions on Tuesday night on rain showers washing grit off the roads.

In addition, a further weather warning is in place for high winds between midnight and 9am on Thursday morning.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Gusts of 50-60mph are quite likely. There is some uncertainty over the peak gusts, but there is a small chance of winds reaching 70mph in places.

"Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible, along with some damage to buildings."
