RESIDENTS are developing plans to spruce up Baildon public toilets, including wall murals and posters.

Baildon Town Council will take over the toilets from Bradford Council in April and has agreed to put £8,000 towards the project in its first year.

At a "Love our Loos" event residents put forward their ideas to improve the facilities, including wall murals of Baildon scenes, a noticeboard and flowerbeds.

Cllr Gill Dixon, chair of the committee which is leading the project, said: "It is very encouraging that the community have stepped forward to help us with this much-valued facility.

"I would like to thank all those who have taken the trouble to either write to us or come along to this meeting. Like the library, our aim is not just to keep it as it is, but to gradually make improvements so that the facilities will become even better known and used.

"Without the support of Baildon Town Council, who have agreed a budget of £8,000 for the first year, this facility would have closed.

"We hope that in due course, we will not just keep the toilets open, but can begin to make improvements, subject to the limitations of such a facility.

"We welcome any ideas from residents, and will be considering next steps at our next Economy Committee on January 25."
