WEST Yorkshire Police emergency call centre staff said they "can't believe" a resident phoned 999 to check that their new mobile phone was working.
Police are warning people to call 999 only in emergency situations where lives or property are at risk.
They also revealed someone had called the emergency services because they could not get inside a police station and urged people to think before they dial.
In non-emergency situations police can be contacted on 101 or online at westyorkshire.police.uk/report-it.
