POLICE are urging residents to be wary after reports of a suspected distraction burglary in Lidget Green involving a child.

Officers said a man and a girl, believed to be about five years old, called at an address and offered to remove rubbish from the garden for £40.

After the victim handed over the money, the child asked for a glass of water.

The victim went to the kitchen and officers believe the man then sent the girl into the house to take money from a wallet in the lounge.

She was then seen leaving the house by the victim.

The man is described as being white, 5ft 8ins tall, of big build with short brown hair and wearing a high vis jacket. He spoke with an Irish accent and was clean shaven. He drove a white pick up van.

The girl is described as having brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
