A BRADFORD postwoman hopes to date a first-class man after putting herself up for auction in her £60,000 drive to fund treatment for a severely ill friend.

Kelly Williams, 41, who lives in Wilsden, wants to fund stem cell treatment for her friend Sol, who lives in Argentina but was bitten by a tick during a holiday to the UK in 2012 and now suffers from chronic Lyme Disease.

She has used her gruelling task to start a wider campaign called Spread a Little Sunshine, to encourage people to use acts of kindness to “inspire change and make a real difference” to people’s lives.

Now Ms Williams, who is single, is raising funds and looking for love with her latest idea, billed as ‘Win a Date with a Pin-up Postie’.

She will be the star lot at an auction held on Thursday, November 16, from 7pm, at The Potting Shed, Main Street, Bingley.

An online auction is taking place on the charity’s Facebook page before then, with bids being taken until 7.30pm on auction night – when the final online bid will become the starting bid for the event. The highest bid so far on Tuesday night was £750.

The event will also see the launch of a fundraising calendar, called The Posties, priced £10, featuring Ms Williams and 11 other postwomen from West Bradford, Bingley and Shipley.

Ms Williams has invited men to come forward for the unusual idea to raise funds.

She said: “It’s drumming up attention for the cause, it is a novel way to do it. I’m looking to hear from a nice chap.

“I thought it would be really good fun, something different and a great way to raise a few quid and – who knows? – I might just find my knight in shining armour.

“I just thought I would go for it, as it’s a bit of fun. I am single and looking to be in a relationship, so it would be an amazing story if it happened through this.

“People have started bidding already.”

Ms Williams’ other fundraising feats have included completing 26 marathons in 26 days in Roberts Park, Saltaire, in July this year. She has raised £14,000 in total so far.

Go to the Spread a Little Sunshine Facebook page to make an online donation for the auction, or spreadalittlesunshine.org or Wilsden Post Office to buy the calendar.
