A FORMER chef who glassed a teenage girl while out drinking on New Year’s Eve has been spared jail.
Siobhan Anderson, 26, was in The Commercial pub in Keighley on December 31 last year when she became involved in an argument with Rhiannon Slingsby, then aged 17.
Anderson was said to have sworn at Miss Slingsby after she barged into her at the bar earlier in the evening, before later getting into a row and grabbing her by the throat.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Anderson had a pint glass in her hand which she used to hit her victim in the face.
Miss Slingsby suffered a cut to her eye which had to be glued at hospital.
In her police interview, Anderson said she had acted in self-defence. She pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on the day of her trial.
A report from the probation service said single mum Anderson, of The Poplars, Sutton-in-Craven, was “extremely remorseful” for her actions, adding that she had met with her victim since the attack and apologised.
Judge Neil Davey QC described the assault as an “isolated incident” and suspended a four-month jail term for a year.
