A SCHOOL set up in Bradford city centre three years ago has cause for celebration after Ofsted inspectors judged it to be outstanding in every area.

The education watchdog visited Dixons McMillan Academy, in Trinity Road, in June for the school’s first inspection since it opened its doors in 2014.

It is one of eight schools in Bradford which come under the Dixons Academies Charitable Trust and currently has 378 pupils in Years 7, 8, 9 and 12.

In their report, inspectors said the vision for excellence and aspiration for success “pervades every aspect of the school”.

The report said: “The principal is passionate about achieving the best for all pupils. He has created an atmosphere where both students and staff feel appreciated and cared for. He provides exceptionally strong leadership.

“Teachers demonstrate strong subject knowledge. They are ambitious for their pupils and plans lessons that engage, motivate and inspire them. As a result, pupils make outstanding progress from their different starting points. Most pupils show impeccable attitudes towards their learning. They are confident, polite and proud to be a Dixons McMillan pupil.”

The report also praised the “inclusive” curriculum, which gives pupils opportunities to embark on independent research and deepen their knowledge of the world around them.

The report said: “Pupils demonstrate a passion for reading and this is encouraged and expected. There is a strong culture of safeguarding. Staff are vigilant and proactive in their care of pupils.”

Governors were also praised for providing “outstanding leadership”and ensuring extra funding to support disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs is used “exceptionally well”.

Inspectors said leaders and staff set a high bar for good behaviour and in lessons, behaviour is “mostly exceptional”. Sixth form students are also making accelerated progress in their A Level courses.

The school should now ensure progress in art, music and design and technology matches progress in other subjects and the independence of students in the sixth form is developed in preparation for higher education or employment.

Principal Wesley Davies said: “We are delighted to be judged outstanding in all areas including the sixth form.

"The staff, governors, families and most importantly the scholars at Dixons McMillan Academy have worked relentlessly over the last three years to create a school that will ensure our scholars leave the academy highly employable and fully ready to lead a happy and successful life.
