It's fifty years since Thornton Baths reopened after a refurb, and that was all the excuse we needed to choose the area for one of our regular trips down Memory Lane via our archive pictures!
We've pulled together one of our biggest ever galleries, featuring pictures of the baths along with other staples of the Thornton social scene including the Steelers nightclub and Thornton Working Men's Club dating back to the 1960s.
From the more recent past we've dug out scores of pictures from Royd Mount Middle School and Thornton Grammar from the 80s and 90s, sure to bring those schoolday memories flooding back.
And there's plenty more besides in our wide-ranging look at historic Thornton, birthplace to the Brontes. Be sure to let us know your own memories of the area in the comments section.
