A WIBSEY woman hopes Bradford shoppers will want to step back in time after she opened a vintage business.

Trudy Fielding, 47, has started her first business, Vintage-Beau, a fashion studio based in Burnett Street, Little Germany.

Her firm sells items including men’s and women’s clothing, particularly from the 1920s to the 1970s.

The business can be visited by appointment only but she will hold an open event at her studio on Saturday, August 19, between 10.30am and 4.30pm.

Miss Fielding also plans to hold similar events on one Saturday each month. She also sells her items at vintage fairs across the country.

Vintage-Beau is the realisation of an ambition for Miss Fielding, who previously worked in sales for a number of companies including Pretty Polly, Ted Baker and High Street TV, as a national account manager.

Miss Fielding said: “I’m doing something I am very passionate about. It’s a totally different world.

“Little Germany is a great place for a vintage business, with its history and architecture. It’s a really nice area.

“There is a customer base in Bradford who love vintage.

“At first I worked from home but I was getting surrounded by my own stock. After a few months I needed something to house it.

“It is not a shop as such as it is not open 24/7.

“It is an appointment-only business and if people are interested in seeing what we sell, I will arrange to be there.

“I worked in sales all of my life. The hours were long, roles demanding, but financially rewarding, yet I yearned for a better quality of life in the longer term.

“The business started small, buying and selling vintage clothes and accessories within a group of friends from my home. However, it wasn’t long before I found myself selling timeless fashion pieces at specialist events and other vintage-inspired fairs.

“There are also lots of opportunities to link in with other groups like the Bradford Playhouse.”

Miss Fielding plans to continue to develop her in-house sales and events and expand on her UK and international online sales and vintage stylist work.

She added that her biggest challenge in her new business was meeting the growing demand for vintage fashion.
