A MAN drove at nearly twice the speed limit on a Bradford housing estate after failing to stop for police, a court heard.

Father-of-two Glen Mavin, 33, was jailed for eight months after admitting dangerous driving.

Bradford Crown Court heard that at one point during the chase on the Holme Wood estate, all four wheels of Mavin’s Ford Mondeo left the ground as he drove over a mound on to playing fields. He then drove off the fields at such speed that sparks flew from under the vehicle as it hit the road. Prosecutor Laura McBride said that Mavin sped off after police in a marked car asked him to stop, shortly before 11pm on Saturday, April 29.

Miss McBride said Mavin, of Sutton Crescent, Tyersal, Bradford, drove at speeds up to 54mph in a 30mph limit during the pursuit, which lasted for about a mile and for three or four minutes.

Jailing Mavin, Judge Jonathan Rose told him he had put the lives of others in jeopardy.
