A BRADFORD MP has demanded the Prime Minister give her unequivocal support to high-speed rail project HS2.

A national newspaper report claimed the Conservatives were considering whether to include a proposal to shelve the scheme - linking London with Leeds and Manchester - in its General Election manifesto.

Labour's Bradford South MP Judith Cummins said: “Bradford’s prosperity is tied to the Northern Powerhouse. We need high speed rail, we need better connectivity and we need the £1.3billion boost for our economy.

“The Tories have continually played games with this issue. We have had warm words and hollow promises, now the Prime Minister needs to commit to this and reassure business and the travelling public.”

The Conservatives did not respond to requests for a comment.
