AN 18-year-old woman is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after two cars crashed in Bradford last night.

A total of four people were taken to hospital following the incident involving a white Volkswagen Golf and a black Vauxhall Vectra in Buck Street, off Leeds Road, Barkerend, at about 10.30pm.

Damage was also caused to the Mr Crusty café which was hit by the Golf during the crash.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said three of them were trapped in the wreckage of the Golf and had to be freed by a specialist fire crew before being taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said on Thursday: "The four occupants of the Golf were taken to hospital for treatment and remain there today. 　

"An 18-year-old woman suffered serious injuries and is currently in a critical but stable condition, while a 16-year-old girl suffered multiple serious injuries. 　

"A 21-year-old woman suffered a minor head injury and the other occupant, a 23-year-old woman, suffered a wrist injury. 　

"None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.　

"The driver and sole occupant of the Vectra, a 24-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries at the scene."

Graham Lund, 43, owner of Mr Crusty's, said: "I got a call at 10.30pm last night saying I'd better come to the shop.

"When I arrived there was a lot of commotion, ambulances, fire engines and police.

"This is going to massively affect us, I can't do anything until insurance have been out, and there could be structural damage too.

"The Golf hit our steps and destroyed them before bouncing up into the shop and hit us on its side. The shutters have been bent all the way back and there is damage to the inside of the shop.

"It's devastating really, we've been here 16 years, we're established, and the cost of this is going to be substantial."

A crew from Bradford fire station and the Technical Rescue Unit from Cleckheaton attended the incident.
