A RACE night organised by young people from the National Citizen Service raised more than £4,000 for a volunteer scheme in Sri Lanka.
The event, run by teenagers from the Bradford City Community Foundation, was held to raise funds for the young people to visit the Asian island.
On the trip, they will teach English to primary school-age orphans, care for old and disabled elephants, and preserve the Sri Lankan turtle population.
NCS volunteers have also been working closer to home, helping the Calder Valley Clean Up Group with repair work following the 2015 Boxing Day floods.
Michael Lynas, NCS chief executive, said: “It’s great to see how many young people have rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in with community projects across the UK, showing their commitment and passion for making a positive change in their local area.
“We hope this weekend will shine a light on those projects.”
Adam Thirsk, NCS Co-ordinator at Bradford City Community Foundation, said: “The team at Bradford City Community Foundation are incredibly proud of the hard work our graduates have put in to raising funds for the community.”
