LOCAL actors have revived an ancient Punjabi love story in a new film shot in Bradford.

The short film, called Heer Ranjha, is inspired by a story of two young lovers who are forced to live without each other.

A photo shoot has taken place at Pind Restaurant in Manningham, and the filming will be completed there on March 30.

The film stars Bradford actor Nadeem Butt and model/actress Siaqa Younas. "It is based on the Punjabi story of Heer and Ranjha," said Mr Butt. "Heer's father is against their relationship and forces her to marry someone else.

"It is a very popular story in Pakistan. We are paying tribute to Heer Ranjha, with songs re-mixed in a new style."

The film is produced by Punjab Entertainment of Bradford and is due to be broadcast on television.

"I would like to thank MD Traders Lahore Pakistan who have provided all the costumes, and special thanks to the managing directors of Pind Restaurant, Ibrar Akram and Hamid Raza Saberi, who provided the best place for the shoot," said Mr Butt. "
