A NATIONAL demonstration against cuts to housing benefits is to take place in Bradford.
The Government’s move to exclude many single people aged 18 to 21 from housing benefits comes into force on April 1, with ministers saying it would stop young people from going straight from school onto benefits.
Campaigners say Bradford, with its disproportionately young population, could bear the brunt of the cuts and so have chosen the city to host a demonstration on Saturday, April 8.
Organiser, Labour councillor Richard Dunbar (Thornton and Allerton) said: “We are concerned more young people will be left in abusive situations and prone to sleeping rough.”
The demonstration will take place from noon outside City Hall and National Union of Students vice-president Shelly Asquith will be one of the speakers.
