THE future of a Bradford doctors’ surgery hangs in the balance for a second time as its temporary contract runs out later this year.

The contract currently held by Local Care Direct to run Manningham Medical Practice in Lumb Lane will end on November 30 and now Bradford City Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is mulling over its future options for the surgery and two others.

The 3,600 people registered at Manningham Medical Practice are being invited to have their say as part of a three-month consultation. Last summer, people-power reversed a decision to close the centre after making a strong case to keep it open, backed by Bradford West MP Naz Shah.

Meanwhile, other patients at Whetley Medical Centre and at Westbourne Green Community Health Centre, previously known as The Ridge, also have until May 24 to give their views on their surgeries. Their contracts are currently with care company Picton.

City CCG is asking patients registered at all three practices for their views on the future of services in their local area, including what improvements need to be made, what kind of facilities they need and what they think of the buildings used currently.

Earlier this year the CCG said Manningham Health Centre was likely to be one of the buildings that continued to be used following a decision to re-procure primary care services in the whole of the area to make sure that the best range of services is provided locally.

The CCG is now advertising for businesses who are interested in running the practices to come forward.

Max Mclean, the CCG’s lay member for patient and public involvement, said: “We understand people want medical services near to their homes, so we don’t intend to remove services from Manningham but we might need to change the places where they are provided.

“That’s why it’s so important for us to know people’s views.”

Patients are now being sent an information leaflet about what is happening. Drop-in information sessions will be held at: Carlisle Business Centre,Wednesday, March 15, 5pm to 6.30pm; Westbourne Green Community Health Centre, Heaton Road, Thursday, March 16, 10.30am to noon and Tuesday, March 21, 2pm to 3.30pm; Whetley Medical Centre, Saplin Street, Friday, March 24, 9.30am to 11am and Wednesday, March 29, 3pm to 4.30pm.
