HUNDREDS of pupils from across Bradford have been wowed by a high energy performance by an internationally renowned "early music" band.

Red Priest performed free concerts, called Gypsy Baroque Fantasy, at Victoria Hall in Saltaire. Over 700 pupils from numerous schools across the district were invited to watch the two sessions on Tuesday.

The Arts Council funded event was held to encourage children to engage with the performing arts, especially those who would not normally attend such a concert.

The band play instruments including a violin, recorder, cello and harpsichord, and recall gypsy music of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Later that evening the group, which performs Baroque music in flamboyant stage shows, played a sold out concert in Salts Mill.

The concert was also sponsored by local business The Early Music Shop and by the Society of Recorder Players.
