SHIPLEY Feminist Zealots held a lively debate with MP Philip Davies on Saturday to discuss equality issues.

More than 60 people attended the meeting at the Kirkgate Centre, where members of the group spoke about equality and certain comments and actions made by Mr Davies.

One major topic included Mr Davies's opposition to the Istanbul Convention on tackling domestic abuse against women.

After the meeting, Aisha Ali-Khan, of the Shipley Feminist Zealots, said: “The meeting was planned to allow both Mr Davies and his constituents a fair chance to speaking and listening to each other.

"However, the general feeling among those that were present in the audience and on the panel is that Mr Davies has failed yet again to listen and take the concerns of his constituents on board.”

Mr Davies thanked the group for inviting him to the meeting.

He said: "I'm not sure there was ever going to be a meeting of minds but in a democracy I think it is right for people to have robust exchanged of opinion.

"I am grateful to them for organising the meeting and I told them I would be more than happy to attend another similar meeting."
