THE Rolling Stones, Beyonce, Paul Weller, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Bjork, David Bowie and Queensbury’s Black Dyke Band will all have something in common by the end of June.

That is that they will all have performed on the iconic Pyramid Stage at the world famous Glastonbury Festival.

The Queensbury-based brass band has been invited to perform at the festival, joining a select group of the most famous rock and roll bands and performers from around the world who have played the stage in the past.

The Black Dyke Band is scheduled to perform on the stage on Sunday, June 25, the final day of the festival.

Professor Nicholas Childs, Black Dyke’s director of music, said: “When [festival founder] Michael Eavis asked us to perform on the Pyramid Stage last year we unfortunately had to decline, as we were performing at the other end of the country the night before and an early performance the next day was simply impossible.

“However, this year we made certain our diary was free.”

He added: “We are always innovative in our concert planning and aim to reach new audiences, especially those who wouldn’t have been exposed to just what a world-class brass band can achieve.

“This is certainly going to be an amazing musical experience.”

The performance will allow Black Dyke to add another famous venue to the list of places where it has performed.

Among many concert venues, the band has played at Carnegie Hall in New York, Sydney Opera House, the NHK Hall in Tokyo, and KKL in Lucerne.

The festival date will be the first of two appearances in Glastonbury for the band in 2017.

Mr Eavis has also announced that Black Dyke will perform at the 21st annual Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza on Saturday, August 5.

Mr Eavis said: “The Extravaganza is one of my highlights of the year.”

Janet Bell, director of the ancient abbey, said: “The Extravaganza is a highlight of the calendar.

“We are very grateful to Michael for organising it and his continued support for the abbey.

“The Black Dyke Band will no doubt be fabulous.”

Previous stars to appear at the abbey extravaganza include Van Morrison, Sensational Space Shifters featuring Robert Plant, Bryan Ferry, Status Quo, Madness, Jools Holland and Ray Davies.
