A number of routes in Oxenhope no longer receive precautionary gritting when freezing weather is forecast, councillors have been told.

The list of roads was read out to Oxenhope parish councillors at their latest meeting by Worth Valley councillor Rebecca Poulsen.

Cllr Poulsen said the roads no longer getting this gritting are: Harry Lane, West Drive, Black Moor Road, Trough Lane, Lee Lane, Bodkin Lane, Hawksbridge Lane, Old Oxenhope Lane, Hanging Gate Lane, Upper Marsh Lane and Dimples Lane.

"They may still receive gritting in extreme weather conditions and people can request gritting online or by ringing 01274 431000, but priority routes will be gritted first," she added.

Parish council chairman, Cllr Ken Eastwood, said: "I appreciate it's not possible to grit everywhere, but the main routes in and out of the settlements need to be done as a matter of priority and safety."

Cllr Poulsen added that Bradford Council said it did grit Oxenhope's main roads during icy conditions on January 12 and 13.

As previously reported, a car nearly ended up in the beck near the bottom of Denholme Road after skidding on ice early in the morning of January 13.
