PEOPLE in and around Keighley have been invited to attend a Tour de Yorkshire roadshow to learn everything they need to know about this year's race.

Tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire is teaming up with local authorities to run a series of shows in towns and villages along the race.

Hundreds of leading cyclists will pass through the Keighley area as part of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire at the end of April.

The Keighley leg is incorporated in the third and final day of the Tour, on April 30.

Cyclists will enter this area at Kildwick and Farnhill before heading to Silsden, where the first of the stage's eight categorised climbs – named Côte de Silsden – takes place.

Competitors will then race over the tops and into Riddlesden, through Keighley town centre and up to Cross Roads.

Next, the cyclists tackle the setts of Haworth Main Street and take in the Côte de Haworth climb. After a visit to Oxenhope, there will be another climb – Côte de Leeming – before the race moves towards Queensbury.

The closest roadshows to Keighley will be in Victoria Theatre, Halifax, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Thursday January 26 and in City Hall, Bradford, from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Monday February 2.

The shows will include information on how to get involved with the Tour, maximise local benefits of global media coverage, as well as provide details on road closures, a land art competition and how to become an official "Tour Maker" volunteer.

Marketing, website and social media tips will be provided to help businesses understand how they can embrace the anticipated influx of visitors during the event.

Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive, Sir Gary Verity, said: “The Tour de Yorkshire is now recognised as one of the best supported races in world and that’s down to the great people of this county taking it to their hearts.

“We run these roadshows to share information about how the race works and to encourage people to show off their community to a global TV audience of over 11 million people.

“I’d encourage everyone who lives or works on the route to come along, ask questions and get inspired on how we can make the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire the biggest and best one yet.”
