JANUARY

Just two days into 2016, a three-car crash claimed the lives of 64-year-old cab driver Mirza Abdul Malick and passenger Paul Haywood, 56, in Shipley Airedale Road in Bradford. Danger drivers Muhammad Sikder, 27, and Ismail Miah, 23, were later jailed for a total of 15 years for causing death by dangerous driving.

One of the biggest stories of the new year was the devastating fire at Bradford's Drummond Mill. More than 120 firefighters attended the blaze, and some had to run for their lives at one point as the fire broke through a basement. Smoke was still rising from the site and surrounding roads remained closed days later. The remains of the mill were demolished soon after.

FEBRUARY

In February, a toddler was tragically killed in a collision with a lorry in Valley Road, Shipley. Two-year-old Issac Brocklehurst died after he went into the path of a tipper truck while riding a toy vehicle, an inquest later heard. His family paid tribute to the 'cheeky' and 'funny' boy.

The deaths of a couple found dead in their Idle home were being treated by police as murder and suicide. It later emerged in an inquest that Anthony Roberts, 37, had killed his 38-year-old estranged wife Guida Rufino in a frenzied knife attack over custody of their two-year-old daughter. He then fatally injured himself with a stab wound.

MARCH

We reported that two women were stabbed in the back within 20 minutes on separate Bradford streets. A woman in her 50s was attacked in Scotchman Road in Heaton, and around 20 minutes later a woman in her 30s was stabbed while pushing a pram in Keighley Road, Frizinghall. In August, a paranoid schizophrenic woman, who attacked the two women at random, was detained indefinitely in a secure hospital following a trial of issue.

Youths armed with baseball bats, bricks and hammers attacked a car on Haworth Road, Bradford. Six men were later arrested over the incident.

APRIL

A judge lifted an order banning the identification of a paedophile who was knifed in the heart by his teenage victim. Zabhullah Boota was found guilty of child sex offences in 2010. His victim was spared jail for stabbing him in November last year, then aged 14.

Seven people were arrested after a man died and several suffered stab wounds in a street brawl in Great Horton, Bradford. Five brothers are currently on trial at Bradford Crown Court accused of murdering Sarfraz Khan in a family feud.

MAY

Two adjoining primary schools in Bradford were closed after a fire broke out. Firefighters were called to St Cuthbert and The First Martyrs Catholic Primary School after a blaze broke out in one classroom and spread to three more. In October, an 11-year-old boy was sentenced for using a match and paper to start the blaze in a storeroom. The fire caused more than £1 million damage.

A driver fled from the scene of a crash, leaving three teenage girls upside down in the overturned car on Cooper Lane in Bradford. 

JUNE

"He had a heart. He would always do something for the community." Friends and family paid tribute to Imran Khan, the victim of a drive-by shooting outside his home in West BowlingTwo men were last month jailed for his murder following a five-week trial at Bradford Crown Court.

Two Bradford men were among 15 jailed for the sexual abuse of a vulnerable schoolgirl. The abusers received a total sentence of 169 years for abusing a girl from Halifax when she was aged between  13 and 15.

JULY

A Bradford mum and her friend denied child cruelty and neglect at Bradford Crown Court as a trial was told a five-year-old boy was trapped naked in a cupboard for ten hours. The women were later jailed for the long-term abuse of the child.

A man was run over by a car, then pulled from beneath it and repeatedly stabbed by an attacker in front of horrified shoppers in Kirkgate, Shipley. Richard Emblow, 45, is set to go on trial on Monday, January 16, accused of attempted murder. 

AUGUST

A 28-year-old man was arrested following an 11-hour stand-off on a roof in Undercliffe. He was said to have caused thousands of pounds of damage by ripping slates from a house roof and throwing them at officers and police vehicles. Daniel Hall was later jailed over the incident.

An 11-year-old Bradford boy died and five members of his family were left hospitalised after a three-vehicle crash on the A64 at Grimston Bar near York. 

SEPTEMBER

The tragic death of schoolboy Asad Khan was the most-read story on the Telegraph & Argus website in 2016. The 11-year-old was found by his mother after he hanged himself in his bedroom. He had recently started at a new school, but had been reluctant to attend

Friends of 17-year-old Adnan Shafiq paid tribute after yet another horror smash on Shipley Airedale Road claimed the life of the teenager. He was a passenger in a car which crashed after the 18-year-old driver lost control.

OCTOBER

In the run-up to Halloween, the 'Killer Clown' craze captured imaginations in Bradford as spooky figures were spotted across the city. Police warned of the dangers of the pranks and social media was awash with sightings and rumours.

Five days after the death of 11-year-old Asad Khan, thousands gathered at his funeral at Masjid Bilal Mosque in Manningham. Many of the mourners wore T-shirts bearing an anti-bullying message and ‘RIP little man Asad’.

NOVEMBER

Riot police were called out to a disturbance in Undercliffe. Officers blocked off the junction between Pollard Lane and Undercliffe Old Road. Youths were reported to be on the road, some throwing rocks and fireworks at police and firefighters.

DECEMBER

Street violence was caught on camera as a group was involved in a hammer attack outside a fish and chip takeaway in Killinghall Road, Bradford. A 41-year-old man was later arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

A teenager caught red-handed peddling Class A drugs from a black Audi told police it was "a busy day" with 80 sales to complete before he clocked off.
