THE Telegraph & Argus Christmas Toys & Tins appeal has been given a further boost thanks to two generous donations.

We are collecting toys for children and tins which will be passed to our chosen charity, Bradford Women’s Aid, which provides support, assistance and accommodation to women and children who have been affected by domestic abuse.

A reader has donated £100 anonymously which Morrisons supermarket, in Mayo Avenue, has upped by a further £50.

This week the T&A’s promotions assistant Hayley Sagar went along to the store and loaded up a trolley with a whole variety of tins with the help of service manager Damian Swiderski.

They will help provide food for some of the most needy people in the district and bring some Christmas cheer to what could be an otherwise bleak time of year.

Morrisons Mayo Avenue store manager Daniel Findlay said: “We’re pleased to have been able to help the T&A’s Christmas appeal and support a charity that makes a difference to the lives of women and children in the city.”

The appeal, which is going to be an annual event, has attracted many generous donations from readers as well as including Broadway toy shop The Entertainer, who quickly came on board and donated our first batch of toys.

Wilko has also donated toys to our cause and several readers have brought gifts and tins in to our offices.

T&A editor Perry Austin-Clarke said: “Christmas, of all times, is a period when women and children torn from their homes by the fear or experience of abuse should be able to forget their troubles and enjoy a safe, loving and hopeful environment.

“Bradford Women’s Aid does a brilliant job of providing refuge for those who have suffered abuse and we hope the T&A’s Toys & Tins Appeal will help to bring at least a little comfort and joy into their lives.”

Sally Deane, director of Bradford Women’s Aid, which works across all ethnicities, said: “This appeal at Christmas time will mean everything to our clients. It will mean that families with very little or nothing will have toys and food over Christmas which will bring some happiness and comfort to otherwise what would be a bleak time.”

Donations can be left at our reception at Hall Ings between 9.30am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, until Friday, December 16, when they will be collected for distribution.
