FIRE crews tackled a fire on some scaffolding in Bradford city centre last night.

The blaze was on the fourth level of some scaffolding outside a building on Manor Row, said a spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Bradford and Stanningley firefighters were called to the scene at about 9.30pm.

The blaze damaged a scaffolding board and caused a window to smash.

A spokesman for Bradford fire station said: "The fire was on the scaffolding at the rear of a building on Manor Row, which they are converting into what appears to be student accommodation."

He added: "We got to the fire before it managed to spread into the building."

Fire crews were at the scene until just after 11pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
