A tarot card reading came true for a Lottery winning Bradford couple who had been told they would come into a substantial amount' of money.

Housing officer Janette Wright, 41, and her painter and decorator husband Stephen, 48, scooped £1,633,505 when their lucky dip numbers came up trumps.

And although the pair, who bought their ticket at Paperland in Northgate, Cleckheaton, said they were in shock, the win came as less of a surprise - because of the tarot card reading which happened about eight years ago.

Janette, who now plans to give up work, said today: "The tarot reader told me one day I would win a substantial amount of money which will be shared'.

"At the time you think that would be great, but you never really think it would happen to you, so you can imagine how surprised and delighted I was when I checked the numbers on Teletext on Saturday night."

Self-employed Stephen said he would be hanging up his paintbrushes in favour of a life of leisure, and he had also treated himself to a new car.

But although the couple have become overnight millionaires they insist their feet will stay firmly on the ground.

"Two of our children are doing their exams at the moment. It is an important time for them so we won't be moving home," Jeanette said.
