WOMEN in MP Philip Davies’ constituency held a ‘Have Your Cake and Eat It’ bake sale today following his comments on gender inequality favouring females.

Under the banner of The Shipley Feminist Zealots, a group formed on Facebook with 500 online members, they held stalls in the town’s market place and sold sponges and buns in aid of Bradford Women’s Aid and CALM - an anti-male-suicide charity.

Mr Davies, the Conservative Shipley MP, said at an event last month: “There seems to be a deafening silence on all the benefits women have compared to men. In this day and age the feminist zealots really do want women to have their cake and eat it.”

Jenny Wilson had brought her daughter Stella to the light-hearted event and said it was aimed at promoting true gender equality.

“Any inequalities there may be in favour of women are so small compared to the overwhelming situation,” she said.

Mr Davies said he would happily debate hard facts.
