A CLEANER who has kept a Shipley primary school sparkling during 34 years of continuous service has said farewell to staff and pupils.

Joan Newsholme, 65, (pictured seated) has retired from Wycliffe C of E primary school, Saltaire Road and said a fond goodbye at a special assembly at the end of term where she was presented with presents from the children, teachers and staff.

" I've seen some of your parents come to this school, back when I was serving dinners in the kitchen, I now see them coming to this school and meeting some of you and to see all that evolve, it makes me feel so good.

"I love every one of you and this all means so much to me, thank you," she said.

Headteacher's Jo Newman said: "We sadly say a fond farewell to a much-loved member of our team at Wycliffe C of E primary school, who has decided to retire.

"Joan Newsholme has been in continuous service here for 34 years, firstly in the kitchen's serving lunches to our children, then on to keeping our school sparkling clean, every single day.

"She has been a cherished member of our school team and a very good friend to us all, we count ourselves extremely privileged to have been fortunate enough to work along side her, we will certainly miss her presence around the school."
